Well it’s been a very hot summer this year in 2025. The BBC reported that it’s likely been the hottest UK summer on record by a significant margin. I particularly struggle with this flat as it gets very hot but I do benefit in the winter. During the hottest periods I have had my portable air conditioner on which makes a difference but it is very noisy which is frustrating. I also believe Paliperidone, the anti-psychotic depot I take makes it more difficult to cope with warmer temperatures.
In May 2025, I had my Paliperidone (Xeplion) anti-psychotic depot injection increased from 100mg to 150mg four weekly. It has made a difference. I seem to have less meltdowns in the last week of the depot like I used to. Although it’s not prescribed for autistic meltdowns (though is used off label for many with a learning disability) its supposed to help with mood stability. I also haven’t felt like my neighbours have been talking about me which could be the medication though my noisiest neighbour moved out recently so it could be that. Sometimes I hear whispers but otherwise it’s not been too bad. What I am particularly struggling with is the sedation. I find, especially in the mornings, I am very lethargic and tired to do anything. Often I just want to lay or sit down. I have to really force myself to do things which can be really hard going.
One remedy I found that helps was having a cup of coffee in the morning. I think the coffee helps but what I also noticed is I can often feel dizzy when moving from a laying or sitting position to standing up. I especially feel dizzy if I am bending down a lot. I’ve recently stopped the coffee and I’ve noticed I am less dizzy so I think it is reacting to my medications.
I’m not sure what to do but will see how I go in the Autumn and Winter. Maybe the lower temperatures will make me feel better. Though I’m not sure what I can do about summer.
