Star Trek Voyager: Distant Origin

I’m watching the episode ‘Distant Origin’ from #StarTrek Voyager. It’s an episode based on similar controversy of Galileo Galilei in the 1500’s when he argued the earth revolved around the sun rather than the earth being the center. The Catholic church was upset by this polymath.

In this episode Voyager meets aliens that were former ancestors to dinosaurs millions of years ago on Earth. The aliens can’t accept they evolved from Earth despite evidence they shared DNA with humans and plants from Earth like us.

The aliens’ politics prevents a change in beliefs where they are immigrants that emigrated from Earth millions years ago. It threatens their idea of legacy and birthright. The Catholic church was much the same to Galileo Galilei arguing the sun wasn’t revolving round the Earth.

I believe Autistic and Mad people face a similar battle when it comes to how they are treated. There is much oppression and an unfair social contract due to the inflexible ideology of Neoliberalism.

Neoliberalism argues can all be rational equal participants in a free market. Yet many autistic and mad people feel there are social justice issues that are not addressed or accommodated for. Much discrimination and stigma exists leading to systemic barriers.
