The Roman empire after Christs death, ruled most of Western Europe and the Middle east. To spread fear in the population, many dissidents such as slaves were sent to ‘The Games’ where they were killed by wild animals like Lions for entertainment.
Many of these dissidents were people that believed in the teachings of Christ. These Christians refused to believe in the Roman Gods. So many chose to carry their cross to the death. In the end the Roman Empire was inspired to adopt Christianity as a religion
There are times when I feel Neoliberal Capitalism as crushing as persecution. When I was homeless I could only cling to my cross. It’s made my faith stronger. I’m now spiritually more at peace with dying as well, whether that is tomorrow or 20 years from now. Jesus keeps the hope alive.
